What?
UNU-FLORES and the Technische Universität Dresden are accepting applications from graduates in engineering, social sciences, and natural sciences for their Joint PhD Programme in Integrated Management of Water, Soil, and Waste. The tuition-free programme aims at creating a new generation of environmental scientists, engineers, and managers, to conduct, promote, and provide guidance on the sustainable management of water, soil, and waste.
In line with UNU-FLORES’s research agenda, research topics for dissertations will be focused on solving current challenges related to the nexus of water, soil, and waste and contributing to the advancement of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Who?
- Tuition and feeThe PhD Programme is tuition-free.Applicants are responsible for covering the costs of living and other expenses related to their research.Therefore, the respective applicants should include in their application a proof of funding to satisfy point 9 in the list of required materials. In case there are any thematic restrictions imposed by the respective donors, this should be explained in the research plan (see point 3 in the list of required materials). It is understood that any such restrictions would still fall within the scope of UNU-FLORES‘s research programme.Qualifications
- Applicants are required to have basic knowledge in undergraduate level physics, chemistry, and mathematics with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Engineering
- Natural sciences
- Social sciences
- Other closely related field
- All applicants are also required to have a research-based Master’s degree related to environmental resources management.
- Experience related to the nexus of water, soil, and waste or environmental resource management will be considered an asset.
- As the programme is offered in English, applicants have to demonstrate proficiency in English. Recognised tests are:
- IELTS: required level is 0
- TOEFL: required level for paper-based test is 600 points and internet-based test is 100 points
- Applicants are required to have basic knowledge in undergraduate level physics, chemistry, and mathematics with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
When?
Application period is 15 August to 15 September 2019.
How?
Candidates should develop a short research proposal related to one or more of the research questions listed under each research cluster, specifying their specific interests in the topic, the regional focus of their research, indication of data availability, and so on.
